A Team Captain's role is to partner with a Spectra competitor and act as their Promoter so they may build a transferable network of fans (No experience required)
Because promoters play an integral role in building a competitor's fan base, Spectra offers great prizes for the Team Captain of the top performer at each round (Auditions are not included as 100% of those scores are determined by our Jury).
Please click here to view the prizes for Team Captains.
Criteria for becoming a Team Captain:
A Team Captain is someone who:
- is well-rooted in Toronto
- is passionate about the arts and believes in the artist they represent
- is very outgoing
- is extremely reliable
- has a solid network of (at least 15) friends
- is available the 2nd Friday of every month (from 10pm to 2am)
If you meet the above-mentioned criteria, please come to any round of Auditions and approach the performer whose talent most appeals to you. If this performer already has a Team Captain, you'll have to approach another competitor. If the performer agrees to work with you, however, on nights they compete, you will receive free admission plus a complimentary beverage. (The onus is on the competitor to provide the Box Office with your name).
Team Captain Duties:
- THROW A MEET-AND-GREET
Immediately after you assume your role as Team Captain, please make arrangements with your performer to throw a massive house party where they will perform. Once your friends see how talented your performer is, this should inspire them to attend Spectra and vote for them. At this party, please tell your friends about Spectra and how your performer can benefit from participating. During the party, be sure to personally introduce your performer to each and every guest so they can build rapport with the performer.
- FACEBOOK GROUP
Prior to your meet-and-greet, your performer will create a facebook group. Immediately after your meet-and-greet, please add all your contacts to this group so your performer's fan base is expanded.
- FACEBOOK EVENTS AND FOLLOW UPS
Create a facebook event for each round your performer is participating in (using the above-mentioned facebook group). It's best to give your guests at least two weeks notice. Facebook is a very impersonal way of inviting guests to anything, so it's always best to follow this invitation up with a personal message or phone call. Also, send a reminder email a week before the event and another a couple of days prior. Please don't go overboard with reminder messages.
Terms:
Team Captains do NOT manage or advise the competitors. A competitor can dismiss their Team Captain at any time. The staff and management of Spectra will not become involved in any disputes that arise between a Team Captain and their performer. It's suggested that a Team Captain maintain a platonic relationship with their performer for the duration of the competition. If a Team Captain wishes to end their partnership with their performer, they should communicate this clearly with plenty of notice. A Team Captain cannot represent more than one competitor per season of Spectra. Members of Spectra's Jury and staff are prohibited from becoming Team Captains.

If you're passionate about the arts, reliable, dedicated and hard-working, Spectra is always on the look-out for help with the following volunteer tasks:
- fundraising (experience required)
- putting up posters
- research
- promotions (become a Team Captain)
- social networking (building Queer Idol's FaceBook group)
- Grant Writer (experience required)
- Publicist (experience required)
- Volunteer Coordinator (experience required)
If you can make a one-year commitment to any of these tasks, please contact the Event Producer.
